Position Overview:

The Youth Development Professional (YDP) - High School is responsible for working directly with high school students at the Teen Clubhouse, offering homework assistance, academic support, and enrichment activities. The role requires leadership, effective communication, and patience to create a positive environment where teens can succeed.

Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions:

  • Teen Engagement: Provide direct academic support, including homework assistance and enrichment activities, to high school students at the Teen Clubhouse.
  • Program Implementation: Execute after school activities across core program areas such as academic assistance, fitness/recreation, arts, and enrichment, ensuring alignment with BGCSL’s goals.
  • Behavior Management: Utilize positive behavior management techniques to maintain a productive and supportive atmosphere for all teens.
  • Attendance Tracking: Accurately record daily attendance, including sign-in/sign-out procedures, and maintain up-to-date records.
  • Health & Safety: Uphold high standards of health and safety, ensuring a safe environment for students, staff, and visitors.
  • Program Support: Assist with program setup, registration, customer service, and community outreach, ensuring the Teen Clubhouse is clean and welcoming.
  • Communication: Maintain effective communication with teens, parents, staff, and community partners, providing regular feedback and updates on student progress.
  • Role Modeling: Continuously serves as a positive role model, embodying the BGCSL values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.
  • Curriculum Planning: Under guidance, plan and implement curriculum activities, prepare necessary supplies and equipment.
  • Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with staff to ensure program quality and achieve BGCSL’s goals.
  • Incident Management: Provide first aid, when necessary, report incidents promptly, and document notable behaviors in accordance with BGCSL policies.
  • Family Engagement: Communicate program standards and policies effectively to families, offering consistent feedback and conducting parent conferences as needed.
  • Professional Development: Participate in regular training, staff meetings, and special events to enhance skills and program delivery.
  • Facility Maintenance: Keep the Teen Clubhouse clean and presentable.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned to support program success.
Requirements:

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in youth development, including planning and supervising activities for teens.
  • Education: AA degree or BA degree (minimum of 60 units). Preference in education or youth related fields
  • Certification: CPR/First Aid certification required.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

Commitment: Ability to work the entire school year, adhering to the scheduled hours.

Technology: Proficient in Google Suite applications (Google Classroom, Hangouts, Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.) and comfortable with utilizing technology in program delivery.

Mental Agility: Ability to handle stress, analyze problems, work with interruptions, concentrate for long periods, and perform routine math calculations.
