ACCOUNTING ASSOCIATE

Join Ascend Nonprofit Solutions, a nonprofit located in uptown Charlotte, and make a difference in our community. We are seeking an entry level Accounting Associate to join our Shared Services Finance team. The Accounting Associate will primarily be responsible for Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and general accounting support. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, eager to learn, and willing to lend a hand to teammates and clients when needed. This position is perfect for a recent graduate or new accounting professional seeking to gain experience while making a difference in our community. We are also willing to consider a college senior who is willing to work part time and transition to full time after graduation.

JOB OBJECTIVE

The Accounting Associate performs accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general accounting duties for participating Shared Services non-profit agencies. The Accounting Associate also supports the Staff Accountants and Controllers, as required and promotes the values and mission of both ASCEND and its constituents.

Salary: Mid to High $40,000's

RESPONSIBILITIES

Accounts Payable

  • Maintain accounts payable data for multiple non-profit agencies.
  • Review, reconcile, and prepare payments in accordance with the schedule established by the Controllers.
  • Review, reconcile, and post transactions from credit card statements.
  • Support efficient agency operation by ensuring accurate and timely payment of agency invoices and requisitions and identifying areas where additional information about specific expenditures are needed.
  • Contribute to the accuracy and dissemination of invoices by maintaining accurate records and keeping well-organized files as well as reconciling various accounts as assigned.

Accounts Receivable

  • Verify and input deposits for multiple non-profit agencies as required.
  • Verify and input accounts receivable transactions to financial system and other records.
  • Follow established procedures for processing receipts and cash, etc.
  • Prepare invoices through Blackbaud's Financial Edge software as directed by Controllers.

General Accounting

  • Learn to prepare, key, and file monthly journal entries and related documentation as directed by Controllers.
  • Reconcile and analyze general ledger accounts as directed by Controllers.
  • Run reports as directed by Controllers.
  • Inform and involve immediately the Controller and/or CFO of any unusual financial conditions and/or circumstances.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Associate's Degree in Accounting or relevant experience preferred
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite products (Outlook, MS Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Ability to complete an assessment of accounting skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Strong record-keeping skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong work ethic
