Position Summary:

Great opportunity to enter into the Automation Engineering Team, that will allow for future growth with Daniel Defense. Under minimal supervision, accountable for the daily and weekly production rates of designated automation cells.

As an Automation Engineer 1, you will be responsible for the functions outlined below

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for demonstrating commitment to and leadership of environmental health and safety principles, policies and procedures.
  • Support Manufacturing daily production, scheduling, and automation needs.
  • Guarantee Automation cells’ production rates are maintaining satisfactory utilization, as determined by management.
  • Troubleshoots automation issues and works with operations and suppliers to get equipment back on line in a timely and cost-efficient manner.
  • Work alongside the Automation Team to help with design, installation, optimization and sustainment of Automation.
  • Assists in developing technical designs, process diagrams, etc. to implement automation.
  • Responsible for reporting any problems or concerns to direct Supervisor.
  • Requires regular attendance to perform essential element as contained herein between the assigned start and end times for work.
  • Maintains a clean, neat, and orderly work area.
  • Performs preventative/general maintenance on all automated manufacturing equipment (i.e., automation cells).
  • Troubleshoots and repairs both mechanical and electrical problems on equipment and provides timely short-term and long-term solutions.
  • Ensures records are kept to provide a history of maintenance for equipment. Interfaces with the scheduling function to schedule equipment for maintenance.
  • Works with the Maintenance team to address other machine related issues assisting in hydraulic and electrical repairs on non-automation equipment as directed.
  • Maintains good working relations with all other employees. Strives to have no conflicts with other employees.
  • Participates in the company’s efforts to continuously improve in Safety, 6S, Quality, Delivery and Productivity.
  • Expected to be a contributor to the company standards on high integrity, safety, fair and equitable treatment and a positive work environment
  • Responsible for demonstrating commitment to and leadership of environmental health and safety principles, policies and procedures.
  • Other responsibilities as deemed appropriate or necessary by management.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in Science/ Engineering, or a related field; or 4+ years of experience in a high-tech manufacturing environment, responsible for sophisticated manufacturing and automation equipment and/or equivalent combinations of education and experience sufficient to carry out the duties of this role.
  • Knowledge in PLC programming and electrical controls.
  • Strong problem-solving ability.
  • The ability to quickly understand scope and constraints of a problem and to develop solutions that meet timing, cost, business requirements and consumer needs.
  • Moderate understanding of manufacturing processes and engineering concepts.
  • Ability to clearly communicate ideas, processes, and technical requirements through effective written, graphic, and oral methods.
  • Knowledge of SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and/or FANUC TP Programming a plus.
  • Proficient computer skills, including MS Office applications for data entry and report generation.
  • Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated to learn and perform job tasks to meet or exceed customer and company expectations.
  • Working knowledge in the mechanical and design areas of automation with general machining capabilities.
  • Demonstrates the capacity to work at an efficient rate to meet production goals and standards.
  • Self-driven hands on, with good communication skills.
  • Positive attitude with strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work under close direction and supervision of senior personnel.
  • Ability to work as needed (hours/days) - including nights and weekends.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize and work in accordance with our Permission to Play Values.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment, including cross-functional teams, and exert influence without alienating others.
  • Basic understanding of Lean, Kaizen, & Design for Manufacturing principles a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift and carry awkward items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires intermittent standing, walking, sitting and bending throughout the work day.
  • Must be able to work in a manufacturing environment, to include working in and around machinery, exposure to noise and chemicals, lights/lasers, etc.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protection Equipment as required by your position and/or Company policy.
