Job Description

UPMC Western Maryland's Intensive Care Unit is hiring a part time CNA. This is a part time position that will work night shift 24 hours per week including rotating weekend and holiday shifts. Here's what the job entails: + Perform in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors. + Perform other duties as assigned. + Assure equipment malfunctions are reported to the appropriate department. + Establish appropriate and effective communication strategies. + Establish professional and respectful interpersonal relationships. + Contribute to universal unit activities, including but not limited to: + Responding to call lights and telephones + Passing meal trays + Transporting residents + Maintain current CPR certification. + Constructively receive feedback and direction. + Identify and communicate learning needs to the unit manager. + Take action to improve knowledge, skills, and performance. + Request assistance in planning and prioritizing activities as needed. + Participate in self-review as requested by the unit manager. + Apply, monitor, and remove resident restraints as per physician or facility protocol. + Provide diversional activities to reduce or prevent the use of restraints. + Document in the medical record according to established procedures. + Comply with safety policies and procedures, including standard precautions and policies for bloodborne pathogen exposure. + Strictly adhere to all policies and practices relative to resident care and facility-related information. + Respond within the scope of the nursing assistant role to emergent situations. + Provide direct resident care as directed by the RN and LPN, including all activities of daily living such as: + Bathing + Feeding + Dressing + Transporting + Toileting + Ambulating residents + Maintain an environment conducive to resident safety and recovery, including but not limited to: + Completing safety checks + Keeping the department and resident rooms clean and organized + Cleaning department-specific equipment + Changing bed linens + Emptying linen hampers + Keeping hallways clear of equipment + Returning equipment to proper storage + Respond to resident needs and calls in a timely manner. + Acquire and distribute supplies and equipment to facilitate resident care delivery, including but not limited to: + Ordering, charging/crediting supplies + Setting up resident care equipment within the scope of the nursing assistant position + Stocking resident rooms and unit supply areas + Deliver resident nourishments and assist with feeding as needed; fill water pitchers. + Perform routine tests such as resident weights, vital signs, and Intake & Outputs. + Provide feedback to the RN/LPN regarding resident care and report changes in resident status in a timely manner. + Suggest and support changes within the department. + Assume responsibility for assignments and view problems as challenges. + Demonstrate awareness of behavior on the efficient functioning of the department. + High school diploma or equivalent. + Must also have either: + 1 year of general healthcare experience, OR + 6 months of experience as UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with PCT competency achieved within 120 days of hire/transfer/promotion, OR + Enrollment in PT/OT/PA program or related healthcare training program with completion of at least one clinical rotation, OR + Completion of a bachelor's degree in a health sciences field. + Successful completion of UPMC patient care technician class. + Successful completion of basic information system training. + Microcomputer experience preferred. + Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing. + Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic or currently enrolled in an EMT or Paramedic program preferred. + Access to medications is limited to the distribution of the medication to the nurse. + Certified Nursing Assistant. Qualifications (CNA) + Certified Nursing Assistant license required. + CPR required based on AHA Standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire. + Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: + Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) + Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran
