Job Description

Concord Academy (CA) is seeking a visionary, collaborative, and strategic leader who will guide the performing and visual arts programs at the school. The Director of Arts will inspire excellence in teaching and learning, foster artistic innovation, and ensure a vibrant and inclusive culture of creativity for all faculty and students.

The Director of Arts is responsible for leading a comprehensive and integrated arts program encompassing music, theater, dance, and visual arts. The Director will support department chairs and faculty in shaping the long-term vision for the arts at CA. The role includes operational oversight of the Centennial Arts Center, ensuring it functions as a dynamic hub for student learning, rehearsals, performances, exhibitions, and community events.

Reporting directly to the Head of School, this person will also serve as a member of the senior leadership team.

Role of Director of Arts

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, articulate, and implement a cohesive vision for the arts that aligns with the school’s mission, values, and strategic priorities.
  • Champion the importance of the arts within the school community and advocate for resources that strengthen programs.
  • Oversee and build auxiliary revenue opportunities for the school that both promote the arts and maximize the potential of the Centennial Arts Center.
  • Build partnerships with local arts organizations, visiting artists, and cultural institutions.
  • Partner with Marketing and Communications to tell the story of the arts at Concord Academy.
  • Partner with Admissions to build relationships with aligned organizations to expand the pool of young artist applicants.
  • Collaborate with the Department Chairs, Associate Head of Teaching, Learning, and Faculty, and the Director of Pedagogy to support curriculum design and faculty development within the two arts departments.
  • Collaborate with academic leaders to integrate arts learning across all disciplines and grade levels.
  • Facilitate cross-disciplinary and co-curricular initiatives, including productions, exhibitions, residencies, and special events.
  • Support student engagement in both curricular and extracurricular arts opportunities.
  • Cultivate relationships with donors, alumni, and community partners to support programs and facilities.
  • Serve as the primary ambassador for the arts on campus and in the broader community.
  • Promote student work through exhibitions, performances, communications, and school events.
  • Support recruitment of mission-aligned and innovative arts faculty and staff.
  • Partner with facilities and operations teams on maintenance, equipment investments, and capital improvements.
  • Collaborate with fellow faculty to support production processes for concerts, plays, musicals, dance performances, and art exhibitions.
  • Develop budgets for all arts programs and the Centennial Arts Center.

The successful candidate will bring a track record of leadership and innovation in the arts, along with the personal qualities needed to inspire confidence, trust, and inspiration. While CA will consider a broad range of backgrounds, candidates are expected to demonstrate most of the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree in arts administration, fine arts, arts education, or a related field preferred.
  • Significant experience in arts leadership, arts education, or arts administration, ideally within a school or educational environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of performing and visual arts pedagogy, production processes, and facility management.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to mentor faculty, manage complex schedules, and lead with clarity and empathy.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive environment that embraces diverse perspectives and artistic voices.
  • Visionary leadership combined with practical management skills.

Salary and Benefits:

Salary range is $125,000 to $135,000 commensurate with experience. CA offers a generous benefits package as well, including tuition remission and on-campus housing.
