Ascension Saint Thomas West is seeking an experienced Director of Surgical Services to lead and oversee the operations of our surgical departments. The Director will be responsible for managing the operating room (OR), perioperative services, sterile processing (SPD) and endoscopy services to ensure high quality patient care and operational efficiency. In this role, you will provide leadership, strategic direction and oversight for all areas within surgical services, while collaborating with medical staff, nursing teams, and administration to optimize the department’s performance and patient outcomes. Responsibilities

Direct the development and implementation of policies, procedures and strategies for Surgical Services.

 

  • Develop departmental goals, plans and standards consistent with the clinical, administrative, legal and ethical requirements/objectives of the organization.
  • Plan, organize and direct all activities related to staffing, including hiring, orienting, evaluating, disciplinary actions and continuing education initiatives.
  • Prepare budgets and ensure compliance with allocated funding. Coordinate and direct internal/external audits.
  • Direct and evaluate all clinical activities, including care plan development, service level determination, and complaint management to achieve performance and quality control objectives.
  • Work collaboratively with physicians, administration and directors to develop streamlined operations where equipment, supplies and staff are utilized efficiently and resourcefully.
  • Remove obstacles to achieving clinical quality, service excellence and financial effectiveness targets.

Requirements

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

 

Required Credential(s):

  • Licensed Registered Nurse credentialed from the Tennessee Board of Nursing or current home state license for multi-state license recognition "Compact State" obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date or license eligible.

 

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing or diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing required. Master's degree or combination of Bachelor's degree and experience preferred.

 

Work Experience:

  • 5 years of experience required.
  • 10 years of experience preferred.
  • 2 years of leadership or management experience required.
  • 5 years of leadership or management experience preferred.

Additional Preferences

  • 1-3 years of Director level experience preferred
  • Cardiac OR experience preferred
