Position Overview:

As a District Sales Manager (DSM), you will be responsible for driving sales growth and providing leadership in the Portland, OR/PNW area. This is a hybrid role that combines sales leadership with direct customer engagement. You will be expected to build and maintain strong relationships with fabricators and other key players in the steel and construction industry. A background in construction sales, steel fabrication, or other related industries is highly desirable. The ideal candidate will be someone who thrives on being out in the field, engaging with clients, and leading by example.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sales Leadership:Lead sales efforts within the district, overseeing sales reps, estimators, and sales engineers.
  • Customer Engagement:Build and maintain strong relationships with fabricators, steel erection teams, and other key customers. You will be expected to be in front of customers regularly.
  • Market Strategy:Work with brokers and fabricators while focusing on expanding direct sales to fabricators. You will also help push the company towards alternative market strategies, including targeting steel fabricators more aggressively.
  • Team Collaboration:Work closely with both the internal team and external customers to ensure a seamless flow of information and service.
  • Aggressive Growth:Identify opportunities for sales growth, actively prospecting and engaging in business development.
  • Industry Knowledge:While direct industry experience is not required, knowledge of the construction industry is essential. You should be able to navigate complex sales and understand the technical aspects of construction without needing constant guidance.
  • Leadership by Example:You will be expected to lead by example, cultivating a team environment that is motivated by your energy and commitment to customer growth.

What Our Client is Looking For:

  • Leadership Potential:You don't need to have a long history of managing people, but you should have a natural ability to lead by example. Theyre looking for someone who can inspire their team to perform, not by running over them, but by motivating them through their own work ethic and success.
  • Adaptable:The role is evolving as the company shifts its focus toward fabricator sales. They need someone who is flexible and can help push this initiative forward.
  • Experience:A background in sales to general contractors, subcontractors, or steel fabricators is ideal. Candidates with experience in the timber or mass timber industry who understand its competitive landscape will also be considered.
  • Customer-Focused:This role requires someone who enjoys relationship-building and is willing to wine and dine customers when necessary to close deals.
