Operations and Maintenance is a customer-driven support division that provides day-to-day maintenance and successful operation of all County facilities. The Duty Plant Operator operates and monitors the 24-hour Facilities Operation Center. This position initiates corrective action in trouble or emergencies by dispatching appropriate staff for various HVAC equipment, mechanical equipment, boilers, fire and elevator alarms, and other services. A 24/7 operations support position that will include overnight or weekend hours and is subject to shift differential pay. This position requires the employee to be in the office and or customer-facing for all hours worked. The Facilities Management Department is responsible for the planning, design, construction, maintenance, and operations of more than 200 facilities comprised of over 10 million square feet. Facilities Management provides various functions to meet the facility-related needs of all Maricopa County Departments including ongoing operations and maintenance of all County-owned facilities, management of all facility projects, and in-house design services. The role requires three years of experience operating and maintaining equipment for building systems such as HVAC, boilers, combustion controls, water treatment systems, or performing stationary engineer duties. A high school diploma or GED is required. Completion of an apprenticeship program or vocational education may substitute for up to one year of the experience requirement. Must complete a Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) and MCSO background investigation and TOC certification to access County detention facilities. Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver’s license by the time of hire. Experience in industrial or heavy commercial, institutional/detention environment, use of Facilities Automation Systems (FAS), Maximo or other computer-based work order management system, and Microsoft Office Suite is valued. Job duties include operating PCs, boilers, air handlers, air compressors, domestic water system, chilled water system, water softeners, heating system, air movement equipment, sewer injection systems; inputting and dispatching routine and emergency work orders; maintaining communication with clients and field technicians; monitoring HVAC, chemical treatment/refrigerant alarms, elevator and fire alarms; maintaining logs; collecting and analyzing data to ensure continuous operation of systems; calling out on-call personnel during after-hours emergencies; and other assigned duties. Working conditions include exposure to mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises, and travel. Protective equipment is required. Special environments include adult and juvenile detention facilities, medical facilities, forensics, courts, and related justice facilities. The position may require a rotating on-call/stand-by schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays. Candidates must pass a pre-employment background and/or fingerprint investigation including drug and alcohol testing for safety-sensitive positions.
