Job Description
Summary This position is responsible for administering safety programs to ensure employee safety and compliance with federal, state and local Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) laws. This position will assist with the identification of existing and potential hazards at the site and recommend corrective measures to eliminate risk.
Essential Functions - Responsible for maintaining and promoting a safe and engaging workplace ensuring all our employees, customers, contractors and visitors are safe.
- Lead plant efforts to engage the entire workforce to build a strong EHS culture.
- Be a visible leader on the manufacturing plant floor to fully engage the employees, contractors, and vendors in EHS processes, expectations and requirements.
- Must know 'What good looks like" and how to get there.
- Be and active architect and builder of our constantly improving EHS management system.
- Champion a pro-active EHS culture of lagging and leading key performance indicators (KPI's).
- Lead safety improvement initiatives ensuring we are constantly improving our working environment.
- EHS management representative in weekly, monthly and quarterly management meetings.
- Management representative ensuring compliance to relevant safety and environmental regulations.
- Lead incident and near miss investigations and provide recommendations to prevent reoccurrence.
- Lead and engage a multi - disciplinary Safety Committee, organize and guide meetings and projects.
- Conduct safety and environmental risk assessments and inspections.
- Conduct industrial hygiene testing.
- Conduct and communicate with passion workplace EHS training to multiple shifts.
- Develop engaging, informative and polished training materials and communication materials.
- Work with site leadership to ensure all key EHS operational controls are in place and that the EHS action items are resolved on a timely basis.
- Compile, interpret, communicate and engage all employees in key safety KPI's, training etc.
- Ability to respond to after hour incidents.
- Liaise with EHS Managers in other facilities and Regional EHS representatives.
Qualifications Education and Experience
- Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or related technical field.
- Five to ten years of experience in a safety role.
- Effective leadership and coaching skills with a record of success motivating others.
- Dynamic personality with ability and willingness to promote appropriate change and improvement.
- Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills to build strong interpersonal relationships at all levels of the organization.
- Flexibility to conduct safety training on off shifts.
- Travel to other Special Metals sites and corporate safety training when required.
- Experience with cross-function communication and teamwork in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite particular Excel, Word and Outlook.
Preferred Certifications & Licenses :
- Current First Aid and CPR certifications
- CSHM (Certified Safety and Health Manager) or CSMP (Certified Safety Management Practitioner) certification.
- OSHA 30 Certification

Work Environment
The typical work environment is a standard office setting / office contained in a foundry or manufacturing setting. The employee is occasionally required to perform work in a foundry environment with occasional exposure to work near moving mechanical parts / work in high temperatures / risk of electrical shock; the typical noise level is moderate noise.
