YANCEY COUNTY is seeking a qualified individual for the following position: TITLE: Emergency Management/Fire Marshall Full-Time Position DESCRIPTION: The Emergency Management/Fire Marshall shall have the following specific duties and responsibilities: Thorough knowledge of emergency management services administration, practices and procedures. Thorough knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to emergency response systems and capabilities. Thorough knowledge of federal, state, and local policies, procedures, laws, regulations, principles and modern practices and processes pertaining to fire inspections, emergency evacuation planning, fire investigations and prevention, and hazardous materials handling, storage and reporting. Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, the geography of the County and surrounding area. Knowledge of firefighting principles and procedures, fire association and state fire protection and prevention codes, standards, and guides, laws and ordinances, fire prevention and public education programs, building construction and systems, fire sprinkler and standpipe systems, arson investigation, fire department organization structures, fire investigation skill. Ability to efficiently plan, organize, and coordinate work of county and/or volunteer staff. Ability to use standard computer office equipment. Ability to promote public awareness of program activities. Ability to courteously deal with the public and co-workers under stressful conditions. Ability to express ideas effectively in oral and written forms. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with emergency services organizations and the general public. QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associate's degree, from an accredited college or university, in a field such as emergency management, fire science, engineering, public safety, or a related field and three years of planning and/or public safety working experience. Special Requirements: Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license. Emergency Management Coordinator I Certification. State Level III Fire Inspector Certification. LOCATION: Primary duty station for the position is located in Burnsville, N.C. SALARY: Pay Rate dependent upon education/experience.
