Job Description
Energy Trading Analyst Brookfield Renewable is looking for an individual with interests in working in a renewable asset management and trading organization with primary responsibilities being ISO bidding and operational functions associated with physical energy flows and optimizations across ISOs and in portfolio and trading analysis and physical bid/offer structures to optimize generation production and load, as well as perform monitoring of energy markets and various other analysis and reporting. The Energy Trading Analyst would possess analytical skills, development/programming abilities to develop and maintain new and existing tools related to energy market fundamentals and analysis and project management skills to manage their activities across energy market, trading, origination and related projects.
The Energy Trading Analyst will work under the supervision of a Regional Vice President and will support various wholesale and retail energy functions across the business.
Responsibilities - Prepare and validate generation schedule by taking into consideration market information and transmission related constraints;
- Submit and validate bids and schedules for all energy related products;
- Coordinate and schedule all physical power, ancillary services, capacity, physical transmission with control areas or trading counterparts;
- Assist in and lead, when assigned, the development of energy market tools; price forecasting models, product valuation models, portfolio optimization analytics and retail energy analytics.
- Develop new and maintain existing Tableau and Python based tools to analyze and track trading data and forward positions, forward pricing, basis and volatility curves and profit and loss analysis and reporting.
- Validate key market assumptions with market data and track project performance. Research and quantify deviations between forecast, budget and actual results.
- Perform analysis on existing and proposed business tools and energy optimization strategies;
- Support data aggregation efforts, analysis and strategies to assist in the implementation of asset optimization and trading activities across the renewable generation fleet;
- Understanding of wholesale power market economics and daily analysis related to market fundamentals, trading, hedging and optimization strategies across Brookfield's renewable energy portfolio;
- Develop expertise in Brookfield's ETRM and related systems, acting as a subject matter expert for the commercial team.
- Responds to internal requests from other functions for data and analysis

- Familiarity with power systems and/or wholesale energy markets; generation and transmission systems, is an asset;
- Knowledge of ISO market rules is an asset;
- Knowledge of scheduling systems such as OASIS is an asset;
- Knowledge of electric power generation and transmission systems is an asset.
Required Skills and/or Experience - Bachelor`s degree in finance, engineering, mathematics, computer science, information technology, or other related discipline;
- Advanced knowledge of MS Excel; knowledge of an ETRM system is an asset;
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages (Python, VB, SQL, etc.) is preferred; especially packages such as Pandas and Numpy, and other programming languages;
- Familiarity with AWS/Azure cloud environment and working with Data Factory and Data Brick is an asset
Salary Range: $85,000 - $100,000 Brookfield Renewable
