Overview

Executive Director West Los Angeles Chapter, Santa Monica, CA. This role is based in Santa Monica and involves external-facing community relations work to support Red Cross mission and community partnerships.

What You Need To Know

This position involves very little operational responsibility. It is an external-facing, community relations position. It is a huge plus if the successful candidate has established connections within the community. The role supports region-led mission capacity building, informs regional leadership of community needs and perceptions, and strengthens relationships by communicating the American Red Cross programs and opportunities for community involvement. Reporting to the Regional Chief Executive Officer, the position serves as the primary liaison to the community backed by Community Volunteer Leaders and the Chapter Board, working alongside volunteers and employees to fulfill the mission. The role is a member of the Region Leadership Team.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Face of the Red Cross to maximize presence and connectivity in the community and expand awareness of the breadth of Red Cross contributions.
  • Develop sustained community relationships to achieve region mission goals.
  • Develop and manage the chapter board to mobilize support and resources around the Red Cross mission.
  • Develop and manage community volunteer leaders to serve as the Face of the Red Cross, support mission capacity building, develop key partnerships, and recruit volunteers.
  • Influence teamwork and inclusion to deliver against the Red Cross mission; may serve as a member of the Elected Officials Liaison Network supporting disaster responses.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of strategic relationships with local elected officials and key community leaders and stakeholders to deepen connectivity and support for Red Cross services.
  • Lead the chapter in revenue-related activities to support region targets, including fundraising and donor engagement as applicable. Contribute to achieving board member giving campaigns and maintaining key donor accounts as defined by leadership.
  • Support achievement of region volunteer engagement goals, blood collection goals, and community engagement goals by stewarding strategic relationships and connecting internal stakeholders for related activities.
  • Develop, lead, and manage the chapter board and community volunteer leaders who act as the Face of the Red Cross in assigned areas.
  • Ensure information flow and alignment across regional teams, volunteers, and staff about community needs and Red Cross programs and capacity.
  • May be asked to deploy to disasters outside the chapter jurisdiction for up to two weeks.

Salary range: CA: $118,000 - $125,000. Salaries are aligned to the geographic location of the work. Other factors may include skills, experience, and comparison to other employees in the role.

What You Need To Succeed

Education: Four-year college degree (BS/BA) in Business, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Finance or nonprofit administration or equivalent experience. Masters degree preferred in community organization, public or business administration, or nonprofit management.

Experience: Minimum of 7 years related experience with strong communications, public speaking, and fundraising capabilities; proven ability to build and sustain community relationships and influence others.

Management Experience: N/A

Other/Skills: Proficiency with MS Office; familiarity with employment laws at federal, state, and local levels; ability to work in a team environment; valid drivers license and ability to travel as needed.

Travel: Travel within communities served and region; occasional division travel. May include long periods of sitting and driving, with sometimes challenging conditions.
