Minimum Qualifications Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate; and Two years of experience in the field of fire origin ad cause determination; or Four years of experience in law enforcement and/or criminal investigation; and Possession of a valid Driver's License; and A minimum of two of the following State of Florida Certifications: Possession of a valid State of Florida Firefighter's Certificate of Compliance Possession of a valid State of Florida Law Enforcement Certification Possession of a valid State of Florida Fire Investigator Certification Possession of a valid State of Florida Municipal Fire Safety Inspector Certification Additional Requirements for Some Positions Completion of an annual physical ability test to maintain combat readiness. Job Specific Competencies Considerable knowledge of law enforcement and fire prevention laws, codes, andordinances. Considerable knowledge of criminal investigative methods and techniques. Considerable knowledge of laws, court decisions, and legal opinions relating to theinvestigation and prosecution of arsonists and their accomplices. Considerable knowledge of critical dynamic factors that contribute to cause and spread offires such as fuels, ease of ignition of each fuel and the impact of each fuel on thedevelopment of a fire. Working knowledge of building materials, construction practices and mechanical systemsrelated to fire prevention, fire suppression and the safeguarding of lives and property fromfire. Ability to conduct fire investigations in conformance with legal requirements and procedures. Ability to read and interpret mechanical and building construction plans. Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions. Ability to handle confidential information. Ability to communicate effectively orally, non-verbally, and in writing. Ability to perform self-extrication as well as extricate victims and/or fellow rescuers from anImmediate Danger to Life & Health (IDLH) atmosphere. Ability to make sound decisions quickly under stressful conditions. Ability to lift and carry weights up to 90 pounds. Ability to perform duties under hazardous conditions requiring considerable physicalexertion. Ability to work effectively with others. Ability to maintain combat firefighter readiness status. Ability to us a computer and related software. Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle. Willingness to work outside in a subtropical climate under adverse weather conditions andhigh noise levels. Solicits information from and interviews suspects, witnesses, owners, and occupants. Conducts crime scene investigations including documenting the fire scene through the useof photographs and detailed sketches and diagrams, searching area for physical evidence,and making determinations on the value of property due to fire, smoke, and water damage. Collects, secures, packages, and transports physical evidence in accordance with chain ofcustody directives. Conducts criminal investigations involving arson related crimes and apprehends suspects. Provides sworn testimony during legal proceedings to provide an accurate account of theinvestigation. Prepares and maintains written fire and police reports of investigative findings. Responds to fire alarms for fire suppression, as directed. Maintains all fire investigation equipment to ensure its readiness. Conducts latent fire investigations as required. Performs other related duties as required.
