Position Summary

The Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing a variety of company vehicles and heavy equipment used in construction and industrial operations. This skilled hands-on role ensures all equipment is safe, reliable, and operates efficiently to support daily field and shop activities. Working within a small team, the mechanic performs preventive maintenance, diagnoses mechanical and electrical issues, and coordinates necessary repairs or parts replacements.

This position plays a key role in minimizing downtime, maintaining safety standards, and supporting field crews and operations. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, dependable, and takes pride in keeping equipment running at peak performance in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities


  • Inspect, analyze, and troubleshoot incoming equipment service requests.

  • Diagnose and repair hydraulic, mechanical, and pneumatic systems.

  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance (PM) on vehicles and equipment per manufacturer recommendations and company schedules.

  • Remove and replace broken, worn, or defective parts and components.

  • Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals.

  • Utilize knowledge of electronic controls and diagnostic tools to support effective repairs.

  • Accurately diagnose equipment and vehicle issues and implement timely corrective actions.

  • Complete required service reports, maintenance logs, and documentation both manually and electronically.

  • Maintain and track fueling activity and records in compliance with BUSTR Class C operation requirements.

  • Fuel company vehicles and equipment as needed.

  • Maintain shop and related areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition at all times.

  • Follow all safety procedures and regulatory requirements when performing repairs or operating equipment.

  • Identify and recommend improvements to maintenance processes and equipment reliability.

  • Communicate equipment status, repair needs, and potential safety concerns to supervisors and field staff.

  • Maintain inventory of parts, tools, and supplies, and notify management when restocking is needed.

Required Qualifications


  • Previous experience maintaining and repairing heavy equipment, trucks, or related industrial machinery.

  • Strong ability to diagnose and repair hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems.

  • Skilled in reading technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams.

  • Proven experience performing preventive maintenance (PM) and troubleshooting complex equipment issues to ensure maximum uptime.

  • Ability to document repairs and maintenance activities accurately using written and electronic formats.

  • Must possess and maintain own tools required for the job.

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to field sites as needed.

  • Strong commitment to workplace safety, including adherence to OSHA regulations, company policies, and safe operation/maintenance of heavy equipment, with proper use of PPE, lockout/tagout procedures, and safe handling of fuels, oils, and other hazardous materials.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Welding and fabrication skills for basic repair and modification of parts or equipment.

  • Experience with electronic diagnostic tools or computerized maintenance systems (CMMS).

  • Familiarity with fuel systems and BUSTR Class C compliance.

  • CDL license or ability to obtain one preferred.

  • Experience maintaining or repairing petroleum-handling or industrial construction equipment.

  • Ability to manage parts inventory and assist with procurement of maintenance materials.

  • Demonstrated initiative to improve maintenance processes and equipment reliability.

  • Effective communication and teamwork skills for coordination with operators, field staff, and supervisors.

  • Follows directions accurately, supports coworkers and supervisors to get the job done safely and efficiently.

  • Ability to identify hazards, prevent accidents, and accurately report safety incidents, near misses, and maintenance actions to maintain a safe working environment.

Work Environment & Physical Demands


  • The employee may regularly stand, walk, climb, crawl, pull, push, bend, stoop, and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds.

  • This position works primarily in a shop environment with occasional field service work.

  • Exposure to construction and industrial conditions such as noise, vibration, fumes, and weather may occur. Proper safety equipment and procedures are required at all times.

  • Travel to job sites as needed.

  • May travel to Erie, PA location.

  • May travel for training.
