The BASIS Independent Brooklyn Upper is seeking qualified applicants for a part time DECA Coach (Advisor) for the upcoming school year!


What We're Looking For

In this teaching position, you would co-advise the school’s DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) chapter. DECA prepares students for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management, and this opening provides an opportunity to be a part of advising a DECA Chapter that has historically achieved remarkable success in regional and national competitions. 

Your Primary Responsibilities
• Help students prepare for their participation in the school’s DECA Chapter.
• Attend and participate in weekly DECA meetings after school and occasional local and travel competitions in support of our students’ success.
• Collaborate with other BASIS Curriculum Teachers to form a community of smart, talented and interesting people who are passionate about their work and readily willing to work in a professional and academic environment.
• Guide student behavior to foster academic achievement, personal responsibility, intellect and individuality in all students.

Essential Teacher Qualifications:
• Have deep knowledge of and passion for subject taught
• Able to create a positive classroom community and build relationships with students
• Has strong verbal and written communication skills with students, colleagues, and parents
• Open to feedback and continuous growth
• Creative in instructional and classroom management strategies (high warm and high firm)
• Cooperative, collaborative, supportive, flexible
• Has a strong work ethic and a "do whatever it takes" mindset

Additional Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Coursework or experience in education is not required, nor is certification. Candidates must have the ability to obtain fingerprint clearance.

Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience in teaching Business Courses or working with DECA organization is preferred but not required.
