NASA Orion Spacecraft Unit Test Software Engineer

The Opportunity:

CACI is seeking Unit Test Software Engineers to work on the Orion spacecrafts Flight Software (FSW) used in NASAs Artemis program, which aims to carry astronauts to the Moon and back. The role involves implementing, executing, and evaluating the results of Orion FSW unit test cases across various domains.

Orion is NASAs next-generation crewed spacecraft, designed to rendezvous with the Gateway space station in lunar orbit. Gateway will serve as a communication hub, science lab, and habitation module, supporting lunar surface missions and developing technologies for Mars missions.

This position requires a self-motivated engineer or computer scientist with strong communication skills, technical expertise, and a passion for space exploration. The candidate should be team-oriented, adaptable, and capable of articulating complex technical ideas effectively.

Responsibilities:

1. Review test plans with Orion FSW prime contractor SMEs.


2. Create thorough unit tests from test plans using Google Test, Gcov, and gMock for C/C++ classes.


3. Evaluate test case results, including pass/fail status, path coverage, loop boundaries, and MC/DC.


4. Troubleshoot failed test cases.


5. Perform C/C++ code reviews to identify logic errors.


6. Collaborate with SMEs to resolve test issues.

The work takes place at the Orion FSW prime contractors facilities in Houston, TX, in a dynamic and critical environment for human space flight.

Qualifications:

Required:

• U.S. Citizenship


• B.S. in Aerospace, Electrical, Computer, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related field


• Experience programming in C++


• Experience with C++ unit testing in aerospace or related industries


• Strong communication skills and ability to manage multiple priorities


• Responsibility, teamwork, and organizational skills

Desired:

• M.S. in relevant fields


• Experience debugging unit tests and with Google Test, Gcov, gMock


• Python programming experience


• Agile development experience


• Version control experience (Git, Subversion)


• Experience with avionics, flight software, or space vehicle systems


• Familiarity with NASA's Orion spacecraft

Pay Range:

Estimated $69,100 - $141,500 USD, depending on various factors including experience, location, and education. We offer comprehensive benefits, including healthcare, wellness, financial, retirement, and educational support. Learn more here .
