Why Powerback?
The Occupational Therapy Assistant student implements Occupational therapy programs and provides Occupational therapy treatments to patients to facilitate increased independence and functioning, under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist and/or Occupational Therapy Assistant.
1. The Occupational Therapy Assistant Student will follow all Powerback Rehabilitation policy and
procedures outlined in the on-boarding and orientation process.
2. The Occupational Therapy Assistant Student attends and contributes to patient care, staffing
conferences and other required meetings as a representative of Occupational therapy, under
the direction of the Occupational Therapist and/or Occupational Therapy Assistant.
3. The Occupational Therapy Assistant Student is responsible for the effective and efficient delivery
of rehab services; adherence to an established plan of care, department and patient(s)' schedule,
and timely documentation of services with the supervision of the Clinical Instructor.
4. The Occupational Therapy Assistant Student works with other members of the
rehabilitation team to develop programs and activities consistent with the needs and
capabilities of each patient with the supervision of the Clinical Instructor.
5. The Occupational Therapy Assistant Student instructs patients, families and other caregivers in
the skills and techniques of the Occupational therapy treatment program under the supervision
of the Occupational Therapist and/or Occupational Therapy Assistant.
6. The Occupational Therapy Assistant Student maintains appropriate and timely documentation for all patients treated with the supervision of the Clinical Instructor.
7. The Occupational Therapy Assistant Student cleans, maintains, identifies, and reports the need for repair of equipment, as necessary with the supervision of the Clinical Instructor.
8. The Occupational Therapy Assistant Student puts patient service first: ensures that patients and
families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere which
recognizes the individuals' needs and rights with the supervision of the Clinical Instructor.
9. The Occupational Therapy Assistant Student implements patient's individualized treatment plan as established by the primary Occupational Therapist with the supervision of the Clinical Instructor.
10. Under the supervision of the Clinical Instructor, the Occupational Therapy Assistant Student
provides individualized Occupational therapy interventions including application of therapeutic
techniques in such areas as, but not limited to:
a. cognitive skills
b. muscle strength
c. coordination
d. endurance
e. mobility
f. perceptual abilities
g. sensory awareness
h. siting and standing tolerance
i. balance
j. activities of daily living
k. joint protection
l. work simplification
m. orientation
n. physical agent modalities
11. The Occupational Therapy Assistant Student organizes and facilitates treatment groups in
consultation with the Occupational Therapist and/or Occupational Therapy Assistant.
12. The Occupational Therapy Assistant Student performs other related dues as required with the
supervision of the Clinical Instructor.
