Job Description
The overnight Chaplain in the department of Spiritual Care and Education at MD Anderson Cancer Center provides for the spiritual and emotional needs of patients, their families, and staff; and implement clinical spiritual education programs and activities during evening and night shifts. Impacts the psychological and spiritual needs of patients, their families and staff and the spiritual education programs and activities.
This position will have a schedule of 11pm-8am, working a varied, rotating shift.

The Department of Spiritual Care and Education at MD Anderson Cancer Center provides spiritual care to patients, caregivers, and staff through assessment, intervention, education, and research. They care for patients and families throughout their continuum of care at their bedside, by receiving prayer requests, leading support groups, and providing bereavement care to offer support and resources to families of patients who have passed away. We offer programs to support the spiritual well-being of MD Anderson faculty and staff members as well, including offering regular worship services, intercessory prayer, sacramental ministry and pastoral support. Our chapels and prayer rooms are open to anyone seeking solace through prayer and meditation.

Essential Job Functions:
Provides direct spiritual care. Evaluates spiritual needs, interventions, outcomes and devises a plan of care and documents in electronic health records. Provides leadership for chapel service and other support for patients and staff; including sacramental ministry as needed. Serves as subject matter expert in committees, projects, and research. Participates in department TRB Safety Briefing. Works all shifts as per department needs. This position is classified as an Essential Worker during Emergency Operations.
Education and Training Functions:
Participates in activities for educational appointees enrolled in MD Anderson's Clinical Pastoral Education Program, accredited by ACPE, Inc. The Standard for Spiritual Care and Education. Our CPE Program is aligned with MD Anderson's Department of Education and Training: Clinical Health Education Programs.
EDUCATION:
Required: Graduate-level theological degree from a college, university or theological school accredited by a member of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
EXPERIENCE:
Required: Four units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) accredited by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc., National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC); National Association of Jewish Chaplains (NAJC) or the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care (CASC).
