Do you have your Security Guard License and are you looking for a position where you can become a special police officer and issue citations? The Department of Facility Maintenance , Public Building and Electrical Maintenance Division , is looking for a licensed security guard to patrol and enforce applicable ordinances, rules and regulations at the Civic Center Parking Structure located in Honolulu and other government parking areas as needed. Other job duties include, but are not limited to:


  • Patrols and inspects all designated facilities under the jurisdiction of the Department of Facility Maintenance.
  • Performs as a special police officer commissioned by the Chief of Police to enforce all non-moving traffic regulations within the City employee parking areas and designated public parking metered areas.
  • Responds to disturbances and maintains order in city offices, buildings and surrounding areas, and participates in motor pool activities.
  • Performs various general office duties such as answering phones, inputting data, creating spreadsheets, drafting and typing memos and incident reports, responding to emails, and using Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Access.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.



EDUCATION REQUIREMENT :
Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.



EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT :
One year of work experience involving public contact.


Preferred Experience: General office and computer experience in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.



LICENSE REQUIREMENT :
1. Valid registration as a Guard with the State of Hawaii Board of Private Detectives and Guards (i.e., possession of a valid State of Hawaii Guard license), at time of application.

2. Possession of a valid driver’s license (automobile/Type 3), prior to appointment.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENT :
Possession of a special police commission prior to completion of probation. During the probationary period, selectees shall be fingerprinted, photographed, and subject to a background investigation by the Honolulu Police Department.


The following are some of the requirements for a special police commission:
1. U.S. Citizen;
2. 21 years of age or older;
3. Any person convicted of a felony, or a misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, or of any criminal assault shall not be eligible for a special police commission.

FINGERPRINTING REQUIREMENT:
This position will be assigned to service the Joint Traffic Management Center (JTMC). Any employee with unescorted access to secured areas and equipment within the JTMC requires a fingerprint-based criminal history record check. Therefore, the selectee will be required to be fingerprinted as part of their employment suitability review. The Department of Human Resources will review fingerprint-based state and national criminal history record information from the Hawaii Criminal Justice Data Center and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
