Job Description
DESCRIPTION: The Plant Manager oversees the physical operations for Millennium Galvanizing's production facility. This position's emphasis is on planning, organizing, decision making, and problem solving. The Plant Manager position requires strong leadership and analytical skills as well as strong interpersonal communication skills. This position requires a detailed knowledge of the galvanizing process; production schedules must be designed and maintained to optimize customer satisfaction and overall production efficiencies.
RESPONSIBILITIES: •Assists in development and maintains a written operating procedure for all phases of Plant operation; manages facility with these procedures.
•Ensures that production staff is following the general company polices of Crest Industries.
•Implements and communicates the short term and long-term strategic plans for production group and assists in incorporation into the overall business plan for Millennium Galvanizing.
•Determines staffing needs based on planned tasks and gains approval for this staff from management.
•Attends all staffing meetings with Human Resources and reports staffing needs.
•Works with Human Resources to initiate interviewing and hiring required staff in accordance with company guidelines.
•Mentors and motivates employees, provides training and development for optimum performance and personal growth.
•Communicates performance standards to staff and then recognizes / rewards them for accomplishments.
•Processes terminations in accordance with company policy, receives assistance from Human Resources.
•Makes recommendations for salary budgets to Operations Manager based on staff suggestions and known guidelines established by management.
•Administers the approved salary budgets for direct reports and production staff.
•Ensures adherence to production schedules.
•Focuses team to optimize production runs based on forecasted needs.
•Monitors assignments and adjusts staffing needs for units in conjunction with other production groups.
•Works with the Operations Manager to determine specific needs for overtime.
•Sets limits and manages overtime hours of all production employees and Plant staff.
•Responsible for evaluating all vendors utilized by the production operation along with the Product Manager and supervisors.
•Assists the Operations Manager with providing written measures annually on spending and improvements to spending.
•Verifies that customers' standards are being met.
•Ensures proper procedures are being followed.
•Ensures proper standards are being maintained.
•Reviews all QC incidents both weekly and monthly with Production Managers and supervisors.
•Reviews all QC incidents monthly with Product Manager.
•Enforces utilization for all tasks as determined by management.
•Explores additional uses of the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system and reports these findings to management.
•Makes decisions about equipment use, maintenance, modification, and procurement.
•Monitors quality standards of products.
•Analyzes production and quality control to detect and correct issues.
•Based on feedback and observations, determines and implements continuous improvements to the production process to optimize production processes.
•Prepares and maintains production reports.
•Monitors and reviews the performance of employees and organizes necessary performance improvement.

•Estimates production costs and implements cost control programs.
•Ensures efficient collaboration and coordination between relevant departments including procurement, distribution, and management.
•Administers company policies and procedures in regard to employment. Conducts performance improvement and dismissals of employees.

•Provides paths for continuous development of employees.
•Verifies that current standards or drawings are maintained for all customers at each production site.
•Maintains "previously approved" standards or drawings in the same manner for reference if needed.
•Manages system for maintenance and verifying the use of templates or jigs used in fabrication.
•Responsible for all plant efforts with the Safety Manager, Human Resources, and the Plant Safety Committee.
•Ensures that all employees are trained in and follow all established company safety policies.
•Provides senior management with monthly reports on the progress of safety programs.
•Responsible for all production expenses and reviewing of monthly results with the Operations Manager.
•Responsible for working with the Operations Manager and senior management to determine capital expenditure needs, assesses those needs, and makes recommendations.
•Involved in some customer development trips off site; directly involved in all Plant visits established by the business development group.
- REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in a field of Engineering preferred; at least three years in the management of a production facility required.
- Broad knowledge of the galvanizing process required
- Ability to develop production schedules is required.
- Experience with Lean manufacturing / Six Sigma or other continuous improvement experience is required.
- Epicor or other ERP software experience preferred.
- Project Management experience required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.
- Strong verbal and written (email) communication skills are required.
- Regular, reliable attendance is required.
