Summary

This position is located in the Office of the Executive Secretariat (OES). OES is responsible for the management of Department of Justice's (DOJ) leadership correspondence and records. The incumbent performs a variety of analytical, research, evaluative or other professional activities in the furtherance of the Department's responsibility for formulating, assessing, and promoting policy and program initiatives in the law enforcement and the administration of justice.

A Policy Analyst works with a Senior Counsel who handles interagency clearance and coordination. The Policy Analyst performs a range of duties, including:

- Participating in the review and clearance of interagency policy documents involving current issues of Department-wide concern to senior policy officials.

- Executing special projects of studies assigned by OES leadership.

- Serving as a liaison between OES and its customers, including the Department's Office of Legal Policy and Executive Secretariats at other agencies.

- Developing research strategies, collecting and analyzing data, and writing reports.

- Advising management on program-related issues and policy guidelines, including drafting OES policies and guidance.

Qualifications

To qualify for the position of Policy Analyst, (GS-0301-12), you must meet AND possess the required specialized experience specific to this series and grade.

If you are a current Department of Justice employee on a permanent appointment in the competitive service, you will need to demonstrate 1-year (52-weeks) at the next lower grade level, to meet the time-in-grade requirements for this occupational series and grade.

Specialized Experience: For the GS-12, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is defined as: Assessing the impact laws, regulations, policies, or precedents may have on programs; Analyzing data to establish the scope, depth, or underlying assumptions of policy issues or problems; AND Preparing project papers or briefings to encourage understanding or acceptance of findings or recommendations.
