The Team and Job Summary

J.S. Held is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Fire Investigator for our Fire Origin & Cause Practice Group with a strong focus on delivering exceptional service and superior work product to our clients. 

As a Sr. Fire Investigator, you will inspect, support, and deliver multiple projects across various disciplines within the insurance and legal industries. J.S. Held is focused on learning and development and is continually looking to attract and retain top talent who is creative, self-motivated, and organized. 

The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of field experience in Fire & Explosion Investigations and be an IAAI-Certified Fire Investigator. A NAFI Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator certification will be considered if all requirements are met to test for IAAI-CFI and the candidate can obtain the certification within 6 months of employment.

Job Responsibilities

  • Interface with clients and project representatives
  • Perform field inspections and necessary site visits
  • Serve as liaison between clients, subrogation attorneys, various contractors, vendors, etc.
  • Travel is required as necessary
  • Receive assignments from customers for investigation of losses or claims and pursue investigation to determine the origin and cause of the fire and/or explosion event
  • Promotes and markets utilization of J.S. Held services in the insurance industry and within assigned territory
  • Identifies and interviews witnesses or involved persons who may possess information or knowledge pertaining to an incident under investigation
  • Develops necessary knowledge and expertise required to conduct a thorough inspection of available public records
  • Maintains up-to-date information regarding existing laws on rights of privacy and availability of public records
  • Conduct investigations in a legal and ethical manner

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of field experience with a strong understanding of fire and explosion investigation principles
  • Must have excellent writing skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word
  • Ability to travel overnight, out-of-state and out-of-country as necessary
  • Strong analysis and critical thinking skills
  • Strong project management skills
  • Deadline and detail-oriented
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Strong leadership qualities
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • Minimum certification requirement for consideration, Certified Fire & Explosion Investigator (NAFI-CFEI or current NFPA 1033 equivalent)
  • Ability to obtain local and regional Private Investigator licensing

Physical and Mental Job

Qualifications

  • Must be able to travel to various project sites and conduct field investigations 
  • Must be able to work at heights 
  • Must be able to periodically access and work on roofs, scaffolds, lifts, and other elevated surfaces and in enclosed spaces (attics, crawlspaces, etc.) with appropriate personal protection. 
  • Must be able to lift, transport, set up, and utilize an extension ladder to access roofs and other elevated surfaces.

A reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role is $120,000- $125,000 PA. Any offered salary range is based on a wide array of factors including but not limited to skillset, experience, training, location, scope of role, management responsibility, etc.
