Job Description
Overview The Senior Public Information Officer will craft and disseminate crucial information to both the public and the media. The responsibilities span from drafting News Releases and Newsletters to orchestrating public Events and News Conferences and managing social media presence. Collaboration is key; the Senior Public Information Officer will work closely with various stakeholders including media outlets, City departments, contractors, Engineers, and the public to ensure effective communication. The Senior Public Information Officer will supervise and mentor a Public Information Officer (PIO), providing guidance and support.
Responsibilities •Creates content for communication initiatives for the City including high-profile issues, communication/marketing plans, advertising placement, emergency management, and employee communications
•Includes highly visible public campaigns and educational initiatives
•Includes daily submission of content for an editorial calendar
•Manages a wide variety of distribution
•Work with media in a positive, cooperative environment
•Answers phone calls and questions, schedules interviews, and coaches city representatives
•Participates in media interviews by assisting and providing positive feedback
•Provides media analysis of reporting and story tone
•Develop, plan, and implement public meetings and events for departments for a variety of reasons to promote citizen engagement
•Represents the department at community meetings and city events
•Supervises Public Information Officer in preparation for public events
•Participates and provides content for content editorial calendar across communication channels including web, social media, print, and video
•Proactively prepares content for newsletters, brochures, communication plans, etc.
•Methods and channels for maximum outreach for Public Works initiative, including but not limited to effective use of local news outlets, radio, electronic, and social media
•Supervises and reviews PIO information provided for preparation of information needed for newsletter brochures, etc.
•Cooperatively works across all levels of organization in helping Public Works departments prepare and release information for residents, businesses, and visitors
•Provides excellent customer service to departments, media, and vendors
•Performs other related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work •Exempt - Full-Time
•Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
•In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.

Minimum Qualifications •Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field
•Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience;
•Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
Licenses and Certifications Required •Proof of Automobile Liability Insurance
•A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Basis of Rating A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
