Position Summary Information
Job Description Summary General Responsibilities: The Student Guggenheim Gallery Assistant is pivotal in maintaining essential gallery operations, including supervising exhibitions, managing events, and engaging visitors. This role involves keeping the gallery spaces clean and organized and supporting the Director and Coordinator with exhibition installations and related public relations activities. Assistants are tasked with the setup and breakdown of exhibitions, conducting gallery tours, and managing scheduling for various groups including students, faculty, and external guests. They are also responsible for handling artwork logistics such as packing and storage, maintaining detailed records of gallery inventory and condition reports, and ensuring the operational efficiency of storage and supply areas.
Responsibilities * Specific Duties * : While all Student Gallery Assistants will share the core responsibilities outlined, we are seeking candidates who can specialize in one of the following areas, bringing a focused skill set to enhance their specific duties. In your application please :
Admin: Besides managing general duties, the admin organizes the schedule for student workers, schedules supervision for all curated and student shows, and manages the scheduling of installation and de-installation processes. This role is also responsible for handling inventory and equipment checkouts.
Social Media Specialist: Alongside overseeing general tasks, the Social Media Specialist handles all general tasks along with the professional management of the gallery's Instagram account. This includes account growth, post preparation, and long-term scheduling of Instagram programming. They also update and manage digital content across the gallery's broader social media presence and website.
Photographer: In addition to general responsibilities, the Photographer is responsible for capturing high-quality images of exhibitions and events, performing image corrections, and maintaining a cohesive visual documentation of gallery activities.
Designer: The Designer fulfills all general responsibilities and takes on additional tasks such as designing invites, posters, flyers, and banners. This role is crucial in developing and maintaining the public appearance of the gallery.
Required Qualifications Required Qualifications: Candidates should have an independent and collaborative work style, with the ability to follow detailed instructions. Strong organizational and event planning skills are essential. An interest in contemporary art and proficiency in Photoshop, InDesign, and social media platforms will be beneficial for this role.
Desired Qualifications Desired Qualifications: Candidates should be capable of managing multiple tasks efficiently and have strong communication skills. Experience with art handling and basic digital media software is advantageous. Prior involvement in a gallery or museum, particularly in public engagement roles, would be helpful. An understanding of current art trends and basic problem-solving skills are also valued to support the gallery's operations and improve visitor interactions.
