Job Description Job Description Position Summary The Trauma Counselor provides direct support to victims of sexual assault and other violent crimes. The role involves individual and group counseling, program development, and educating about the impacts of trauma and violence. Starting Salary: $50,000/per year Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide ongoing individual counseling to child, adolescent, and adult victims and their significant others. Participate in planning, developing, and implementing various support groups and activities for children, teens, and adults. Respond to the agency hotline and perform intake interviews as necessary. Build and sustain collaborative relationships with other community resources, and represent our agency at local alliance and coalition meetings and events as needed. Maintain statistics, reports, and documentation as needed for all direct services using the victim services database and other electronic systems as they are developed. Evaluate incoming clients to estimate the expected duration of treatment. Follow accepted ethical standards as outlined in the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), American Counseling Association (ACA), or American Psychological Association (APA) Code of Ethics, depending on your graduate training. Offer training sessions tailored to the dynamics of victimization for volunteers, staff, and other community professionals. Qualifications Education & Experience Bachelor's Degree in counseling, psychology, or social work required. Minimum two years post-graduate experience working with trauma victims preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Demonstrated knowledge of sexual assault and incest dynamics and appropriate interventions preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of the needs of victims of sexual violence and other violent crimes. Knowledge of community social service resources is helpful. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required.
