PICU Nurse Job Details

• Location: Harlingen, TX 78550 (South Texas healthcare jobs)
  
• Facility: Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Level III Trauma Center, teaching hospital
  
• Assignment Length: 13-week travel nursing contract
  
• Start Date: Weekly Wednesday starts beginning October 1, 2025
  
• Shift: 12-hour night shifts (18:45 – 07:15)
  
• Hours per Week: 36
  
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2
  
• Charting System: Cerner
  
• Scrub Color: Navy blue
  
• Float Support Areas: Pediatrics and NBICU
  

Estimated Weekly Salary

• Estimated Weekly Salary Range: $1800-$1930
  

PICU Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Active Texas RN license (Texas nursing jobs)
  
• Minimum 1 year of recent PICU nurse experience
  
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
  
• NIHSS certification preferred
  
• Proficiency in CVL care, trach care, GT care, ventilator care, intubated patients, and IV medication drips/titrations
  
• Ability to work night shifts and float to Pediatrics and NBICU units
  

PICU Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality pediatric nursing care in the ICU
  
• Monitor and manage critically ill children with conditions including DKA, trauma, bronchitis, appendicitis, cellulitis, pancreatitis, osteomyelitis, diabetes, RSV, COVID-19, dehydration, fever, Kawasaki disease, Crohn's, BRUE, flu, and post-tonsillectomy
  
• Perform specialized procedures: CVL, trach, GT, ventilator care, intubation
  
• Administer and titrate IV medication drips
  
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in a teaching hospital setting
  
• Float to Pediatrics and NBICU as needed to support patient care
