Telework: This position will report to the headquartered location a minimum of 2 days per week. You may have the opportunity to telework the remainder of the week, if desired and based on business need.

Salary Range: Starting salary of $75,208, commensurate with experience
Basic Function The Forensic Accountant ("FA") performs professional accounting and analytical work necessary to meet agency investigatory and prosecutorial goals. The FA applies accounting principles to complete financial investigations, analytical assessments, the formation of expert opinions, the critique of opposing expert opinions, and expert testimony and written reports as necessary for cases and projects arising out of the Criminal, Civil, and Public Protection Divisions of the Office of Attorney General (OAG).
Examples Of Duties - Perform various types of bank account and transactional analyses
- Analyze the impact and result of contracts
- Apply accounting and analytical principles to revenue recognition and expense reasonableness
- Provide net worth and lifestyle analyses
- Undertake business valuation analyses and interpretations
- Review financial statements and tax returns
- Analyze and trace accounting entries and transactions
- Interview or support the interview of accounting, banking, and financial employees and professionals
- Consult and provide guidance on legal demand language for requests, subpoenas, and search warrants for financial and business records
- Testify as fact or expert witness in matters before courts of various jurisdictions
- Review opposing expert witness reports
- Support other federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies in matters of parallel interest to the OAG
- Research specific issues that may arise
- Perform related duties as required
Minimum Experience and Training - Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university
- Five (5) years of experience in progressively responsible accounting and auditing
- Valid and active license, in good standing, to practice accountancy as a Certified Public Accountant
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - Understanding of accounting principles/methods and their application to private or governmental accounting systems
- Knowledge of financial reporting
- Ability to analyze and interpret complex accounting data
- Ability to understand and apply forecasting techniques and principles
- Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing
- Advanced skill with Microsoft Word, Excel, and various accounting programs
- Must be able to exercise a high level of judgment related to complex financial matters as they relate to the forensic and investigative environment
