Outpatient Spanish Interpreter

This position is for the Outpatient Spanish Interpreter. Purpose statement/position summary: Currently hiring a Spanish Interpreter. Under general supervision, provide interpreting services in a culturally sensitive manner to facilitate communication and the relaying of medical information between speakers of different languages at CHLA; and provide written translations as required in patient encounters such as translation of medical instructions and medication schedules, and any hospital related administrative correspondence with patients/families, including information, education and documentation materials. Collaborates with other health care team members in the delivery of care. Complies with applicable office and hospital policies and procedures particularly relating to patient confidentiality and informed consent. Also assists department with on-the-job training and orientation of new staff interpreters.

Minimum qualifications/work experience: 2+ years' experience interpreting and translating in a healthcare setting, including experience working with the community and/or a target language population with range of cultural, socio-economic, and demographic backgrounds. Competency in written and verbal communication skills in English and the designated foreign language. Ability to translate and interpret medical terminology. Experience interpreting and translating with patients at a full range of developmental and educational levels.

Education/Licensure/Certification: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related discipline preferred. Completion of a minimum of 40 hour Healthcare Interpreter training required. For spoken language interpreters: Healthcare Interpreter National Certification (where applicable by language) through CCHI or NBCMI. Translator Certification (where applicable by language) through ATA. For ASL interpreters: ASL Interpreter Certification through NAD-RID. 85%-90% score for language proficiency from a vendor selected by CHLA.

Pay scale information: $51,979.00-$85,394.00 CHLA values the contribution each team member brings to our organization. Final determination of a successful candidate's starting pay will vary based on a number of factors, including, but not limited to education and experience within the job or the industry. The pay scale listed for this position is generally for candidates that meet the specified qualifications and requirements listed on this specific job description. Additional pay may be determined for those candidates that exceed these specified qualifications and requirements.
