Job Summary For over 30 years, our company has been a leader in the structural steel industry, specializing in Division 5 Structural and Miscellaneous steel fabrication and installation. From small retail builds to large-scale commercial projects, we pride ourselves on building long-term relationships through safety, quality, and exceptional execution.
We are currently seeking a dedicated Structural Steel Estimator to join our pre-construction team. This is a fully remote position open to candidates anywhere in the United States, provided they have a professional home office setup and high-speed internet.
The Opportunity You will be joining a stable, tenured team that values precision and accountability. Unlike general construction estimating, this role is specifically focused on steel. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of the bid process—from initial scope review to the final submission. We are looking for someone who loves the details, understands the complexity of miscellaneous metals (stairs and rails), and enjoys the autonomy of a remote workflow.
A Note on Remote Culture While this role is remote, it is not isolated. We operate with high communication standards to ensure our team stays aligned. We are looking for a professional who treats their home office with the same discipline as a corporate headquarters. You will be expected to manage your own bid calendar, communicate proactively with General Contractors, and participate in our mandatory weekly video production meetings.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Bid Analysis & Setup: You will begin by reviewing ITBs (Invitations to Bid) and downloading all relevant construction documents, including S-Drawings, A-Drawings, and specifications. You will identify the full scope of work, flagging any discrepancies or missing information immediately.
Digital Take-Offs: Using Bluebeam Revu , you will perform precise quantity take-offs for all structural steel, joists, decks, and miscellaneous metals (stairs, rails, ladders, bollards).
Cost Modeling: You will build the estimate by calculating shop labor hours, field erection time, and equipment costs. You will reach out to vendors to obtain competitive pricing for raw materials, galvanizing, and sublet items.
Vendor & Client Communication: You are the voice of the company during the bid phase. You will send RFIs (Request for Information) to Architects and Engineers and follow up with General Contractors to ensure our bid is received and qualified.
Data Management: You will enter all take-off data, drawing numbers, and line items into our estimating system to generate the final proposal.
Weekly Alignment: You will prepare a status report of all active bids and follow-ups for the team video meeting every Thursday at 9:30 AM EST.
Required Qualifications
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of specific experience estimating Structural and Miscellaneous Steel (Division 5). General Construction (GC) estimating experience is not sufficient for this technical role.
Education: High School Diploma required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering is a plus.
Software Proficiency:
Bluebeam Revu: Expert-level proficiency is required. This is our primary tool for take-offs.
Microsoft Excel: Advanced proficiency required for bid tabulation.
Microsoft Outlook: Ability to manage high-volume email correspondence professionally.
Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of AISC standards, steel connection types, welding symbols, and erection logistics.
Remote Readiness: Proven ability to work independently without supervision. You must be responsive during core business hours (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM EST).
Preferred Skills (Not Required)
Experience with Tekla PowerFab (FabSuite) is a strong plus for future implementation.
Experience with steel fabrication shop flow and logistics.
Why Join Us?
Stability: Join a company with three decades of proven success in the industry.
Remote Flexibility: This is a 100% remote role, allowing you to save on commute time and costs while working from the comfort of your own professional home setup.
Compensation: Competitive salary commensurate with experience.
Benefits: Paid Time Off (PTO).
Application Process To ensure we hire the best talent, our selection process includes a resume review followed by a mandatory practical estimating test . Candidates selected for the test will be provided with a drawing set and must return a completed take-off and estimate within 36 hours . This test allows you to demonstrate your proficiency with Bluebeam and your attention to detail.
If you are a disciplined estimator ready to take ownership of your work, we encourage you to apply.
