Position : Litigation Associate – Insurance Defense

Title Classification : Exempt

Salary: $145,000 - $160,000

Pay Frequency: Semi-Monthly

Division: New York

Work Location: Remote (Must live within commutable distance to New York courts).

THE POSITION:

Our firm is seeking to hire an experienced litigation associate to join our established and growing insurance defense team in New York. This role is ideal for a motivated associate who is prepared to take ownership of their caseload with support and guidance from senior attorneys. Brooks & Berne represents major insurance carriers and their insureds, defending a wide range of liability and personal injury matters.

The associate will be responsible for handling matters from inception through resolution, including all aspects of discovery, motion practice, court appearances, depositions, and trial preparation. This position focuses on automobile accidents, premises liability, construction accidents, and suits brought under New York’s Labor Law.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage a caseload of litigation matters from inception through resolution
  • Draft and respond to discovery, motions, and other legal documents
  • Conduct and defend depositions of parties, witnesses, including preparation of clients and insureds.
  • Appear in court for conferences, hearings, oral arguments, and other proceedings
  • Communicate effectively with clients, carries, and opposing counsel
  • Collaborate with partners on case strategy, and trial preparation
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting and compliance with client guidelines

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certifications :

  1. Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  2. Must be currently barred in New York.

Experience :

  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in litigation
  • Must have experience in personal injury or general liability matters
  • Prior experience with insurance defense firms preferred

PREFERRED SKILLS:

• Demonstrated ability to handle high-volume caseloads with autonomy.

• Experience appearing for mediation, arbitration, settlement conferences

• Trial experience (second chair trial experience considered)

• Proficiency in drafting and reviewing legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and court filings with detail and accuracy.

• Exposure to New York Labor Law (preferred)
