Job Description


American Traveler is seeking a Registered Nurse for a Med/Surg-Tele position in a corrections unit, requiring an active OH or compact RN license and Epic charting experience.

Responsibilities


  • Work in a corrections health unit serving incarcerated patients within a secure, locked environment
  • Patient population includes inmates with oncology and non-oncology diagnoses
  • Float to various Oncology Medical-Surgical (MS) units as needed
  • Nurse to patient ratio is 1:3 for PCU and 1:4-5 for MS assignments
  • Shifts are 12-hour days, nights, or a rotating combination, with assignments determined every 4 weeks based on staffing needs
  • Weekend shift requirements vary depending on unit needs
  • Utilizes Epic for documentation and Pyxis for medication administration
  • Cardiac monitoring and telemetry are core aspects of care
  • Provide care to a diverse patient population with active cancer diagnoses, oncology workups, and various acute conditions
  • Perform specialized procedures such as cardiac drip management (no titration), PCA administration, external CPAP/BIPAP, high flow nasal cannula use, and tracheostomy care
  • Support available from providers including pharmacy, physical therapy, respiratory services, social services, and rapid response teams
  • Security maintained by Corrections Officers; strict access protocols in place
  • Fingerprinting required promptly after contract signing for compliance
  • First time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Locals are accepted at the same rate
  • All time off requests must be submitted with initial application and built into the contract

Requirements


  • Active OH or compact RN license in hand at time of consideration
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Medical-surgical and telemetry nursing skills required
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Graduation from an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program required
  • Experience with dysrhythmia management, IV therapy, central and peripheral line care, and respiratory management preferred
  • Two professional references are required, with at least one from a manager, director, or formal leadership role
  • Former employees eligible if separated for at least 6 months; current employees at Ohio State University hospitals are ineligible
